being an adult is stupid and real life is hard

buying a house is stressful. trying to get all your shit together when you already own a house and need to buy another one is just torture. good morning, this is a complaining-that-my-life-is-hard post. which is dramatic, because my life is not that hard. but this whole house-hunting thing is not. fun. oh, by the way, we are looking for a different house. the thing about finding a house this time, though, is that i'm being super picky. and not that we weren't picky before, but this house has to be THE house. you know, the one that we are going to live in for 20+ years, where our kids will grow up and go to school, etc. etc. and let me just say that there aren't a whole lot of houses that meet my criteria even for sale, nevermind for sale and that we are interested in.

let me be more specific. there are 3. only 3 houses that i would even consider looking at. 2 of those houses need work. a good amount of work. and the last house...well, it's the dream house. it's perfect. although some rooms may have paint colors we would change, i don't even mind them enough to move in and let it be for awhile. not only does it technically meet all my "must-haves" but everything is nice looking. and in the area we want to live in (also known as OLD), it's very hard for some of these houses to have everything up to date and be aesthetically pleasing.

sigh. but the thing is. we don't even have our house up for sale yet. we are almost there, but not actually there. and this house? i know it's going to be gone soon. it's just too good. SO. GOOD. i know someone else who has it together and is more adult than us has been waiting for this too and is pouncing. womp womp. we are, obviously, still going to try and i suppose, at least, it has ignited a fire under us to GET MOVING, YOU DUMMIES! so we will see what the future holds. but FYI - looking for, owning, buying a house is the worst, in case you were curious (although, painting things whatever color you want and nailing tons of holes in the walls just because you feel like it is pretty great too).

baby must-haves: bathing [0-3 months]

Tuesday, May 7

// sink tub: puj // bath towel and washcloth: aden + anais // baby wash: california baby //
shampoo: paul mitchell // thermometer: aquatopia //

sink bathing. with a tub. this tub. in my opinion, there is only one way to bathe a tiny baby and that is in a sink. this puj tub makes it beyond simple. i have tried mini tubs and supports (supports do have their place later!) and this is just the best and easiest way to get that little babe clean! i am also a huge fan of how easy it is to store (unlike said mini-tub) because it's flat.

for towels and washcloths, i have to say, i turn to aden + anais again. these towels are thick and warm (and yes, they have hoods) and, so far, have lasted! the washcloths are my favorite by far. super thick and super big. they were great in the beginning to get wet with warm water and then lay over your baby to keep them warm while washing different parts. again, these have lasted as well. (also LOVE 3 sprouts animal hooded towels. we have the walrus and besides being adorable the quality is A+)

soap! i assumed, before jameson even entered the world, he would have super sensitive skin. unfortunately it runs in the family so i was prepared. we bought all california baby products and are super pleased with them (we are also starting to use honest company products and are just as happy with those too)! jameson has eczema so we get the eczema-specific wash but they also have a few different kinds. we also use the eczema lotion which we love and bubble bath!

this shampoo was a gift (otherwise i'm sure i would just use the california baby for hair too) - but it smells so good! i love it - and, it's true - no tears. just a freshly washed baby scent that i die over.

the thermometer was also a gift but we are so thankful we got it. it takes the guess work out of "how hot is the water" or at least backs up the hand test. now that jameson is older and in the real tub he loves playing with it as a toy, too!

i know i mentioned the eczema lotion above but i can't stress enough how important lotion is for a baby, especially 0-3 months! we use california baby lotion on top of the eczema specific stuff on problem areas to keep him extra moisturized.

over the weekend: park life

Monday, May 6

//loves the swings, indifferent about the slide, lives for being thrown in the air //

// "walking" and standing, the boy can't stop moving! //

// lots and lots of pointing happening now - very serious //

so, it's been awhile! and i sincerely apologize. i just coud not bring myself to blog the past couple of weeks. for some reason i've been feeling extra tired and with the wedding one week there was not any extra minutes and then last week all i wanted to do was catch up on my family time/lazy time that i missed out on.

this past week - especially this weekend - has been gorgeous here in nh. every day has been in the 70s, FINALLY! and it's been so fun taking jameson outside to explore. we are lucky enough to live a block away from the best park in the city and had a blast yesterday. jameson is still a little iffy on "grass" but i think he'll soon get over it.

i hope your weekends were just as great and DEFINITELY! by friday i will be reviewing the honest company. i'm getting my second shipment of stuff this thursday and i'll have first hand experience with a lot of the products by then. also stay tuned (i know, i know) for my bathing must haves (0-3 months) and, hopefully, more fun time outside!

if you're interested in jameson's outfit details

playing the birthday card

Wednesday, April 24

if you guys follow me on instagram this is an old picture - but more than accurately portrays my feels this morning. maybe jameson just really wanted to be the first to wish me a happy birthday, (oh, it's my birthday today, by the way. i'm sure you're as thrilled as i am.) or maybe he just felt like being an asshole. either way, we all woke up at 2:00 this morning. he hung out in our bed for about an hour, talking and slapping our faces. then he got to fall back asleep while i tossed and turned the rest of the "night". if there was ever any doubt (there wasn't), it is clear that there are no more "kristen days" left on the books. which is fine, because i have a nap lined up after work and a date with my favorite nachos paid for by jimmy. what else is there, really?

obviously i have not put up any of the posts i had planned last week, and i don't think i'm going to this week. birthday card - played. i will see you all next week when all the birthday and wedding stuff are OVER!!

[27, by the way.]

thursday: my friday

Thursday, April 18

i just wanted to share this with you all. i can't stop watching it, CHILLS.

i don't think it needs to be said, but i'll say it anyways - it's been a crazy week. and i'm going to sign off for the rest of it. i can't wait to share my review of the honest company with you next week as well as my "baby must-haves: bathing" picks!

have a great weekend!

baby must-haves: sleeping [0-3 months]

Tuesday, April 16

// sleeping: monitors - motorola and snuza // swaddles/sleep sack - aden + anais,  halo, and baby deedee //
giraffe - cloud b // owl night light - land of nod (similar) // pacifier - MAM //

so i thought i would kick off my "baby must-haves" 0-3 month edition with our sleeping gear! let's start with the monitors - pretty basic necessity. when i saw that they had video monitors i was a goner. and now that we have one, i actually hate being at someone else's house without one. it's crazy to go from being able to see and hear everything your baby is doing (especially when they get mobile - which we will discuss later) to only being able to hear them. we went with the motorola brand monitors simply because my friend recommended them and they were reasonably priced considering they are expensive video monitors.

next up is the snuza, which is a totally different kind of monitor (can you tell we were paranoid?). this little life-saver detects the baby's breathing through movement and will sound off an alarm if your child goes longer than a certain number of seconds(i think there are two options on this particular model, ours may be set at 15). you clip this tiny monitor onto the baby's diaper so that the soft tip of it is pressed onto their belly. it was so much easier to let jameson sleep by himself knowing that he was wearing something like this!

i had mentioned the aden + anais swaddlers being essential in just about every aspect of jameson's early life, and sleeping was no different. they were great for the summer-time because it was HOT but he loved to be swaddled/babies are always colder than us anyways. the halo sleep sack/swaddler was nice because it was a little heavier and he could not unswaddle himself! the hospital actually gave us one, which is how i acquired it, but i'm so glad we had it. the baby deedee sleep sack is perfect when you don't need an actual swaddle anymore and it gets cooler - it's a much heavier "sleeping bag" kind of product.

we got this owl night light from land of nod. because you wake up and need to see 3 or 4 times a night it was crucial that we had something soft enough not to mess with the actual sleep we could grab, but bright enough to be able to feed, change, etc. this lamp really is the perfect mix of those two things and so cute! would be great as a night light in a kids room for many many years to come.

lastly, the two big comfort items for jameson. pacifiers (i don't have any feelings towards this brand vs. other brands because this just happened to be the brand of pacifiers i picked up when he needed them and he quickly grew out of using them so i lucked out) were a must. in the first month or so he really needed something in his mouth to suck on. he was too little to find his thumb - which turned out to be what he really wanted, he still uses his thumb to go to sleep - and needed some help.

most importantly, of all these things, is his giraffe. it was a sound machine gifted to us at our baby shower, and has quickly turned into a love affair. this babe has a really hard time falling asleep without it (so much so, in fact, that another giraffe has been purchased for one grandma's house and still another giraffe for travel everywhere else). i can't say enough about white noise lulling babies to sleep. it's like watching a miracle. if you can't get your hands on a sound machine, download an app - you'll thank me!

over the weekend: birthdays!

Monday, April 15

// my sister recently got 6 chicks at their house. so cute! //

// jameson loved them - a little too much, actually. he brought out the little kid death grip of love
(you know, when they get so excited and, if left alone, would "love" an animal to death?) //

// it was a great day spent with family - cheers to 5 years, indigo!!
(in fact, the previous day was spent at my dad's house
celebrating the big 5-0 for him, so it was a crazy birthday weekend!) //

p.s. don't forget to check out tiny buttons
jameson's outfit post is up!

happy monday!
